Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at pc75577@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A working hood should pull smoke and heat up and out quickly. One simple check is to hold a piece of paper against the baffle filters, it should stay firmly in place without falling. If the paper drops, smoke lingers, or the kitchen feels hotter than normal, the system likely needs service. Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting can get it balanced and running right.

Before Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting arrives, check that the breakers are on, the make-up air intake filters aren’t plugged, the disconnect switches are on, and the control panel lights are on. If everything checks out and it’s still not running, we’ll handle the rest.

A smoky kitchen usually means the hood isn’t pulling enough air. This can happen if the filters are clogged, the make-up air unit isn’t bringing in fresh air, or the fan belts are loose. When the hood can’t capture smoke at the source, it spills back into the kitchen. Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting can check airflow, balance the system, and get everything drawing the way it should.

PM Customer Benefits

  • Reduced parts pricing
  • Reduced labor rates
  • Access to emergency service

Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting only offers emergency calls to active PM customers who work to prevent breakdowns through routine maintenance

Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting does not offer emergency service to non-PM customers because emergency failures are almost always preventable with routine maintenance. Breakdowns create unpredictable, high-stress workloads that wear technicians down and lead to burnout. By limiting emergency service to active PM customers, we keep systems stable, reduce avoidable failures, and protect our team so we can maintain skilled, reliable technicians who respond quickly when it truly matters.

If a non-PM customer has an emergency, they can still contact customer service and we’ll add them to the queue, but priority always goes to those who actively maintain their equipment through preventive maintenance.

An emergency is any situation where your kitchen can’t operate safely or stay open. This includes loss of exhaust, loss of make-up air, heavy smoke in the kitchen, fans not running, or equipment overheating because the airflow system has failed. If the hood system can’t remove heat, smoke, or grease, Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting treats it as an emergency.

PM customers with active emergencies skip the line and get the next available technician dispatched immediately. Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting prioritizes PM customers because their systems are maintained, safer to work on, and far less likely to cause preventable breakdowns.
